Flintshire Flying School - About Us

Our Flying School here at Hawarden Airfield near Chester was established in 2008 to meet the growing need within the area for high quality private pilot training. We have a number of aircraft in our fleet, including the purpose designed trainer the Piper PA38 Tomahawk and the PA28 Cherokee.

Our aircraft are maintained and serviced here on-site at Hawarden in the engineering facilty of our sister company NWMAS, which results in aircraft downtime kept to an absolute minimum.

The purpose of the flying school is to provide pilot training and maintain aviation standards to the highest degree.

Hawarden is ideally suited to private and ab-initio flight training. The aerodrome has no controlled airspace restrictions to interfere with basic training, yet it has sufficient traffic to gain experience with a full Air Traffic Control service unit like that of Liverpool and East Midlands airports.

There are no excessive taxying distances or delays waiting for commercial traffic that are encountered at other training facilities.

There is also no requirement to waste time exiting and entering special rule zones before training enabling general handling to commence immediately after take-off. Delays and restrictions at other busy commercial airports can constitute a considerable addition to the eventual cost to your flying training.

Hawarden provides a fully professional training environment, that includes a 2043 metre recently re-tarmaced runway. It provides facilities for advanced training and instrument approaches which include Radar, NDB, DME and ILS approaches, which are to the same standard as any major UK airfield.

As for the school facilities, we have a fully equiped classroom for interactive ground training with our projector as well as full refreshment facilities including food and drink. Our instructors office is equipped with internet access as are the planning area and classroom so students have plenty of access points for weather checking and flight planning. Our offices have fully functioning wireless internet facilities available to instructors and students. After becoming a flying school member you will be provided with a security pass for fast entrance through the sites security gates.
